A photograph is a technical medium that can be important for Science, but it is also an aesthetic object that shows structure, colours, and composition, open to several levels of understanding and appreciation.
This first SFMC photo competition is open to a wide range of mineralogical subjects, covering both macroscopic and microscopic photographs. For microscopic images, all types of techniques are acceptable including natural and polarised light, fluorescence, interference contrast, backscattered electrons, secondary electrons, confocal, deconvolution and mixed techniques. Macroscopic images should be close-ups of a mineral or mineral association, but outcrops photos are excluded.
Opening date: 1 June 2025
Closing date: 1 October 2025
This contest is only open to SFMC members. The three best photos will be awarded. You will find all the information you need to enter the competition in the rules document (in French & English).
